Shopping for Fruit at the Weekend

xīngqī星期liù六shàngwǔ上午，wǒ我hé和māma妈妈qù去mǎi买shuǐguǒ水果。

On Saturday morning, I go shopping for fruit with Mum.

shāngdiàn商店lǐ里yǒu有píngguǒ苹果、xiāngjiāo香蕉hé和xīgua西瓜。

The shop has apples, bananas and watermelons.

wǒ我xiǎng想mǎi买yī一gè个hěn很dà大de的xīgua西瓜。

I want to buy a very large watermelon.

māma妈妈wèn问wǒ我，wǒmen我们liǎng两tiān天néng能chī吃wán完ma吗？

Mum asks me, can we finish it in two days?

wǒ我xiǎng想le了xiǎng想，shuō说kěnéng可能chī吃bù不wán完。

I think for a moment and say we probably cannot.

wǒmen我们xuǎn选le了yī一gè个xiǎo小yīdiǎnr一点儿de的xīgua西瓜。

We choose a slightly smaller watermelon.

māma妈妈yòu又mǎi买le了sì四gè个píngguǒ苹果。

Mum also buys four apples.

wǒ我wèn问tā她wèishénme为什么bù不duō多mǎi买jǐ几gè个。

I ask why she does not buy a few more.

tā她shuō说shuǐguǒ水果fàng放tài太jiǔ久，jiù就bù不hǎochī好吃le了。

She says fruit does not taste good if we keep it too long.

huíjiā回家hòu后，wǒ我bǎ把liǎng两gè个píngguǒ苹果xǐ洗hǎo好le了。

After we get home, I wash two apples.

wǒ我hé和māma妈妈yī一rén人chī吃yī一gè个。

Mum and I each eat one.

shuǐguǒ水果hěn很tián甜，wǒmen我们mǎi买de的yě也gānggāng刚刚hǎo好。

The fruit is sweet, and we bought just the right amount.
