The Borrowed Umbrella

bān搬jìn进xīn新jiā家yǐhòu以后，wǒ我yīzhí一直méiyou没有jīhui机会rènshi认识línjū邻居。

After moving into my new home, I had not had a chance to meet my neighbours.

yī一tiān天zǎoshang早上，wǒ我chūmén出门shí时tūrán突然xià下qǐ起le了dà大yǔ雨。

One morning, heavy rain suddenly began as I was leaving home.

wǒ我zhàn站zài在lóuxià楼下，xiǎngqǐ想起zìjǐ自己de的yǔ雨sǎn伞hái还zài在bàngōngshì办公室。

Standing downstairs, I remembered that my umbrella was still at the office.

zhè这shí时，yī一wèi位línjū邻居ná拿zhe着liǎng两bǎ把sǎn伞zǒuguò走过lái来。

Just then, a neighbour came over holding two umbrellas.

tā她bǎ把qízhōng其中yī一bǎ把jiè借gěi给wǒ我，ràng让wǒ我bùyòng不用zháojí着急hái还。

She lent me one and said there was no hurry to return it.

yǒu有le了zhè这bǎ把sǎn伞，wǒ我méiyou没有chídào迟到。

Thanks to the umbrella, I was not late.

wǎnshang晚上huíjiā回家，wǒ我xiān先bǎ把sǎn伞dǎkāi打开liàng晾gàn干。

When I got home that evening, I opened the umbrella to let it dry.

dì第èr二tiān天，wǒ我qù去qiāo敲línjū邻居jiā家de的mén门。

The next day, I knocked on my neighbour's door.

hái还sǎn伞de的shíhou时候，wǒ我cái才zhīdao知道tā她yě也gāng刚bān搬lái来bùjiǔ不久。

As I returned the umbrella, I learned that she had moved in recently too.

wǒmen我们liáo聊le了fùjìn附近de的shāngdiàn商店hé和qù去dìtiězhàn地铁站de的lù路。

We talked about nearby shops and the way to the subway station.

xiànzài现在，zài在lóuxià楼下jiànmiàn见面shí时，wǒmen我们dūhuì都会tíngxià停下lái来dǎzhāohu打招呼。

Now, whenever we meet downstairs, we stop to say hello.

yī一chǎng场yǔ雨méiyou没有gěi给wǒ我dàilái带来tài太duō多máfan麻烦，fǎnér反而ràng让wǒ我rènshi认识le了yī一wèi位xīn新línjū邻居。

The rain did not cause me much trouble; instead, it helped me meet a new neighbour.
