An Unplanned Trip

shànggèyuè上个月，wǒ我hé和péngyou朋友zhǔnbèi准备zuò坐huǒchē火车qù去lǚxíng旅行。

Last month, a friend and I planned to travel by train.

chūfā出发qián前，wǒmen我们cái才zhīdao知道nà那tiān天de的huǒchē火车tíng停yùn运le了。

Just before leaving, we learned that our train had been cancelled.

péngyou朋友hěn很shīwàng失望，yīnwei因为tā他zǎojiù早就ānpái安排hǎo好le了xíngchéng行程。

My friend was disappointed because he had planned the trip long ago.

wǒ我jiànyì建议qù去fùjìn附近de的xiǎo小chéng城kàn看kàn看。

I suggested visiting a small town nearby.

nàlǐ那里zuò坐gōnggòngqìchē公共汽车yī一gè个xiǎoshí小时jiù就néng能dào到。

It was only an hour away by bus.

wǒmen我们méiyou没有dìng订jiǔdiàn酒店，yě也méiyou没有liè列jǐngdiǎn景点qīngdān清单。

We had not booked a hotel or made a list of sights.

xiàchē下车yǐhòu以后，wǒmen我们yánzhe沿着yī一tiáo条hé河mànmàn慢慢zǒu走。

After getting off the bus, we walked slowly along a river.

hé河biān边yǒu有yī一jiā家shūdiàn书店，diàn店zhǔ主gěi给wǒmen我们jièshào介绍le了jǐ几tiáo条lǎo老jiē街。

There was a bookshop by the river, and the owner told us about several old streets.

wǒmen我们zhào照zhe着tā他de的jiànyì建议，zhǎodào找到le了yī一zuò座xiǎo小qiáo桥。

Following his advice, we found a small bridge.

zuò坐zài在qiáo桥biān边xiūxi休息shí时，péngyou朋友shuō说zhèlǐ这里bǐ比tā他xiǎngxiàng想象de的yǒuyìsi有意思。

As we rested by the bridge, my friend said the town was more interesting than he had expected.

tiān天hēi黑yǐqián以前，wǒmen我们zuò坐chē车huí回le了jiā家。

We took a bus home before it got dark.

yuánlái原来de的jìhuà计划méiyou没有shíxiàn实现，dàn但wǒmen我们bìng并méiyou没有báibái白白guò过wán完zhè这yī一tiān天。

Our original plan did not work out, but the day was not wasted.
